At the heart of
the Apnea Goggles is a pair of medical-grade glass PCX
(Plano-Convex) lenses of positive focal
length, which allows them to collect and focus light
in the most challenging of conditions. In addition,
they feature the same "NIR I" type of coating for
optimal light transmission used on high-tech light
emitters, detectors, ultra high-speed fiber optics
and lasers applications. This coating decreases surface
reflections and ghost images and completely eliminates
glare, very useful features for the light-changing
conditions found underwater. Since the lenses are
place inside of the goggles, vision is possible not
only underwater but also on the surface.
For the first time, a support sheet
has not been used to keep the lenses fixed to the
inside of the goggles, as this sheet has been
known to smear, producing artifacts that decreased
the lens performance. Instead, our lenses are fixed
directly to the which are made from a super strong, "no-bend"
polycarbonate that is still much lighter than anything
used before.
The glue used to secure the lenses
to the Frame Spacers is a new "Loctite" compound
that will not dry, fog or cake with time and it has
been proven totally water proof under any temperature
condition.
The goggles picked as carriers, the Arena
"Zoom" feature the highest grade hypo-allergenic
materials available today, the deepest goggle well
to accommodate the widest variety of eyes, and
the best strap ever found in any goggle. This strap
in facts rivals that of a mask in thickness and
strength, greatly reducing the possibility of lost
goggles due to a broken strap.
The goggles are offered in two "flavors":
The Silver/Blue and the Silver/Smoke.
Both types sport a very attractive metallic silver
color on the strap and goggle gaskets, with the tint
of the goggle changing between a light blue or a
reflective smoke colors. The blue is only 5% darker
than conventional clear goggles but offer much better
UV (ultra violet) protection for when the diver is
on the surface. The smoke version offers the same
amount of protection, but its reflective coating
reduces direct light impact on the eyes substantially,
while still being far clearer than conventional dark
goggles. Both versions are scratch-resistant.
All Apnea Goggles come with a Protective
Case made out of light metal and water-resistant
inner lining, far better than regular plastic cases.
This allows the goggles to be protected when carried
in a dive bag, a must for such delicate piece of
equipment. In addition, the case is big enough
to allow the goggles to "rest" comfortably, without
applying pressure over the goggles or bending the
strap, all of which reduce the life of the goggles,
yet, it is small enough to be carried in a pocket.
Cases come in a matching blue color.
