The diver may use a weighted device (known as "sled")
to speed up his descent, which can be abandoned once the intended
depth is reached. The ascent, however, must be performed under
the diver's own power, although he may use any gear of preference
and pull on the line, with most divers using a combination
of both kicks and pulls. This category is a cross between
Constant Ballast and Variable Ballast and is thus well liked
and respected by all freedivers and fans.
Interesting Facts:
- Male divers tend to favor pulling on the line, while
females resort more to kicking.
- The only diver to use a constant combination of both pulls
and kicks throughout the whole ascent is our own instructor
Yasemin Dalkilic, giving her the fastest speed of any champion.
Yasemin also set the longest-lasting world record in this
category, which stood for over 2 years from 2001 to 2003.
